El Arte Que Fue la Vida: A Reflection of Aurora Cáceres

The purpose of this project is to explore the representation of gender and power in three selected works by the Peruvian writer Aurora Cáceres. The three specific works selected are her: novel La rosa muerta, travel log Oasis de arte, and autobiography Mi vida con Enrique Gómez Carrillo. They will be analyzed in order to discern how this author has portrayed her feminine perspective that is simultaneously subversive and hegemonic in regards to societal norms. This in turn will expand the literary epoch of modernismo in order to include a well versed novelist, activist, and essayist that enriches the feminine perspective. / A Thesis submitted to the Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts. / Summer Semester 2015. / July 15, 2015. / Aurora Caceres, Feminist literature, Hispanic American Modernism, modernismo, Peru / Includes bibliographical references. / José Gomariz, Professor Directing Thesis; Juan Carlos Galeano, Committee Member; Keith Howard, Committee Member; Mark Pietralunga, Committee Member.
