My study investigated how young adult women give meaning to the concept of anxiety. In interviews, the respondents talked about their diverse experiences of the concept of anxiety, after which I made a narrative analysis of their stories. In the previous research chapter, i developed studies that examined the relationship between young women's identity and what was normal or deviating in relation to their experience of the concept of anxiety. I have looked at how the concept of anxiety was produced through modern history from a Swedish and international perspective. As theoretical explanatory models for my study, I have looked at theories of female identity creation based on mental ill-health and theories about the woman as a social construction. My data collection has been through semi-structured interviews about eight respondents. The collected empirical evidence showed that the concept of anxiety has a meaning that is not always clear to the world.
