This Master’s Thesis is a biographical study into the life of Lady Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales, with a special focus on the victimhood of Diana at the hands of the British Royal Family. It explores the way in which Diana may be viewed as a victim of the Royal Family, while also considering whether she herself played a part in her own victimization and in that way led to her feeling like a victim of the Royal Family and even her own life. The theoretical background of the research is based on victimology in its wider sense, and the research method is biographical study of a person’s life, in this case the life of Diana with a special focus on Diana as a victim. The biographical study was accomplished by using five different types of biographies on Diana as its primary sources. In addition, biographies on different members of the Royal Family and the official website of the British Royal Family were used as secondary sources. Overall, it was found that Diana may have been a victim of the Royal Family, but also that she was in no way a passive victim as she herself played an active part in her victimization. Nonetheless, this thesis does not discuss everything that relates to its topic, but it does offer an overall portrayal of the instances that are of greatest importance. In addition, despite its limited scope, this thesis provides a general overview of Diana’s life. / Tämä pro gradu on elämänkerrallinen tutkimus Lady Diana Spencerin, Walesin prinsessan, elämästä. Tutkimuksessa keskitytään erityisesti siihen, miten Diana voidaan nähdä Britannian kuninkaallisen perheen uhrina, ja oliko Dianalla itsellä osansa siinä, että hän tunsi olevansa Britannian kuninkaallisen perheen ja jopa oman elämänsä uhri. Tutkimuksen teoreettinen tausta pohjaa uhritutkimukseen sen laajemmassa käsityksessä, ja tutkimusmenetelmä on elämänkerrallinen tutkimus yksilön elämään, tässä tapauksessa Dianan elämään, erityisesti keskittyen Dianaan uhrina. Elämänkerrallinen tutkimus suoritettiin käyttämällä ensisijaisina lähteinä viittä erityypistä Dianan elämänkertaa. Lisäksi toissijaisina lähteinä käytettiin elämänkertoja muista kuninkaallisen perheen jäsenistä ja Britannian kuninkaallisen perheen virallisia internetsivuja. Kaiken kaikkiaan tutkimuksessa todettiin, että Diana on saattanut olla kuninkaallisen perheen uhri, mutta Diana ei missään nimessä ollut passiivinen uhri, vaan hänellä itsellään oli aktiivinen osa siinä, että hänestä tuli uhri. Tämä tutkimus ei kuitenkaan käsittele kaikkea mitä sen erityiseen fokukseen kuuluu, mutta se pyrkii tarjoamaan kokonaisvaltaisen kuvauksen tapahtumista, jotka ovat fokuksen kannalta tärkeimpiä. Huolimatta tutkimuksen rajallisesta laajuudesta, tämä pro gradu tarjoaa yleiskatsauksen Dianan elämästä.
