Petit village de quelque 600 habitants au début de la Révolution Française, Évry devient au XXe siècle la préfecture de l’Essonne pour compter près de 52 000 habitants en 2006. Il s’agira ici de comprendre les mutations de la mairie d’Évry liées à ses changements progressifs d’échelle puis de statut. Plusieurs époques émergent, reflet d’une France en changement du XIXe au XXe siècle. Après l’installation de la municipalité et l’action d’Alexandre Aguado, « maire-mécène » de 1831 à 1840, l’administration municipale se développe au travers de deux grandes familles : les Decauville puis les Pastré. En 1947, le gaulliste Michel Boscher est élu maire. Sous sa mandature, de profonds bouleversements marquent la ville et la municipalité. La création de la ville nouvelle est décidée en 1965 et il devient très vite un homme politique d’influence. Contesté au début des années 1970, il est battu par Claude Jeanlin aux municipales de 1977 avant que celui-ci ne cède sa place à deux personnalités politiques dont l’aura deviendra nationale : Jacques Guyard en 1983 puis Manuel Valls en 2001. / Evry used to be a small village of approximately 600 citizens at the beginning of the French Revolution before it became the « Prefecture » of the Essonne department in the 20th century with finally about 52 000 inhabitants in 2006. The object of this thesis is to understand the changes of Evry’s town council related to its progressive transformations of scale and status. Several periods emerge, reflecting the changes of France from the 19th to the 20th century. After the implementation of the municipality and Alexandre Aguado’s action as « mayor-sponsor » from 1831 untill 1841, the municipal government developed with two great families : the Decauvilles, then the Pastrés. In 1947, the Gaullist Michel Boscher is elected mayor. Under his mandate, profound upheavals left their marks on the city and the municipality. In 1965, the creation of the new town was decided and Michel Boscher became an influential politician. Being a controversial politician, he was beaten by Claude Jeanlin in the 1977 local elections. After a few years, Claude Jeanlin was replaced by two other politicians of particular importance for France : Jacques Guyard and Manuel Valls.
