Projektet har sin kärna i emotionell design och utforskar hur nya bearbetningsmetoder för gjutet porslin kan leda till ett mer hållbart synsätt på produkter. Förstudien tar avstamp i ett teoretiskt ramverk som behandlar hållbar utveckling, design och materialitet. Detta följs av ett explorativt designarbete med huvudmetoden materialexperiment där nya ytstrukturer, former och upplevelser på koppar i porslin utforskas. Kunskapsbidraget resulterar i en innovativ bearbetningsmetod där sandblästring integreras i porslinet och skapar en taktil eller mönstrad yta i kombination med glasyr. Utifrån alla designmetoder landar till slut designbidraget i ett produktkoncept bestående av sex koppar med olika sensoriska attribut för att visa kunskapsbidraget och studiens materialdrivna process. Tillsammans med kopparna medföljer även en informativ förvaringslåda som förklarar hur kopparna är tillverkade och bearbetade. Detta är ett komplement till kopparna för att styrka konceptet genom att förmedla kunskap om bakgrunden vilket leder till en större emotionell koppling till användaren och förlänger livslängden på konceptet. / The project has its core in emotional design and explores how new processing methods for casted porcelain can lead to a more sustainable approach to products. The study starts with a theoretical framework based on the research areas of sustainable development, design and materiality. This is followed by an explorative design process with the main method of material experimentation where new surface structures, shapes, and experiences on cups in porcelain are explored in combination with glaze. The knowledge contribution results in an innovative processing method where sandblasting is integrated into the porcelain which creates a tactile or patterned surface. Based on all design methods, the design contribution finally results in a product concept consisting of six cups with different sensory attributes to demonstrate the study’s material-driven process and knowledge contribution. The cups are accompanied by an informative storage box that explains how the cups are made and processed. This is a complement to the cups to reinforce the concept by conveying knowledge of the background, leading to a greater emotional connection with the user which then extends the lifespan of the concept.
