Dagens teknik och digitalisering utvecklas ständigt. Denna utveckling medför att mängder av dagens byggföretag behöver anpassa sig med utvecklingen genom att övergå från att arbeta med diverse ritningar i 2D-format till att arbeta med samordnade modeller i 3D-format. En relativt tydlig problematik med detta är att många av dessa byggföretag ligger fortfarande efter i teknikens utveckling på grund av olika faktorer. En lösning för att motverka detta problem är att tillämpa BIM i verksamheten. Däremot har studier visat att företagens möjligheter till att påverka utvecklingen av BIM skiljer sig beroende på företagets resurser i form av arbetskraft samt ekonomiska förutsättningar. Syftet med studien är att jämföra och undersöka hur storleken på olika företag varierar i användningen av BIM utifrån företagens omsättning och antalet anställda. Vidare är syftet att undersöka hur företagen bidrar till branschens utveckling inom BIM samt de möjligheter som finns för att utveckla BIM. Metoden som används under studiens gång är litteratur- och enkätstudier. Litteraturstudien används för att samla in och erhålla kunskap kring BIM och dess utveckling i branschen. Enkätstudien utförs hos sex olika företag för att analysera och jämföra hur företagen arbetar med BIM i deras verksamhet. Resultaten visar att de större företagen generellt ligger i framkant i utvecklingen av BIM. De större företagen tillämpar BIM i större utsträckning än de mindre företagen som enbart tillämpar BIM utan någon tydlig struktur i verksamheten. Resultaten visar också ett tydligt samband på att företagens storlek har en betydande roll om företaget kan bidra till utvecklingen av BIM utifrån deras befintliga omsättning och antalet anställda. Slutsatsen är att de större företagen ligger längre fram i utvecklingen av BIM. De större företagen har mer tillgångar i form av resurser, flera anställda och en högre omsättning i jämförelse med de mindre företagen. Detta beror också på att de mindre företagen har ett mindre engagemang av att implementera BIM i deras verksamhet, vilket leder till att mindre företag har begränsade möjligheter i att påverka arbetet och utvecklingen av BIM. / The technology and digitization are constantly evolving today. This development means that many of today's construction companies need to adapt to the development by switching from working with various drawings in 2D format to working with coordinated models in 3D format. A relatively clear problem with this is that many of these construction companies are still lagging in the development of technology due to various factors. One solution to counteract this problem is to apply BIM in the business. However, studies have shown that the possibilities of influencing the development of BIM vary according to the resources of the enterprises in the form of working and economic conditions. The purpose of the study is to investigate and compare how the size of different companies varies the use of BIM in terms of their turnover and number of employees. Furthermore, the purpose is to study how companies contribute to the development of the industry within BIM and the opportunities that exist to develop BIM. The method used during the study is a literature and questionnaire studies. The literature study is used to collect and obtain knowledge about BIM and its development in the industry. The survey is conducted at six different companies to analyze and compare how the companies work with BIM in their operations. The results show that the larger companies are generally at the forefront of the development of BIM. The larger companies apply BIM to a greater extent than the smaller companies that only apply BIM without any clear structure in the operations. The results also show a clear connection that the size of the companies has a significant role if the company can contribute to the development of BIM based on their existing turnover and number of employees. The conclusion is that the larger companies are further ahead in the development of BIM. The larger companies have more assets in the form of resources, more employees and a higher turnover in comparison to the smaller companies. This is also depending on that the smaller companies have less commitment to implementing BIM in their operations, which leads to smaller companies having limited opportunities to influence the work and development of BIM.
