L'activité missionnaire du mouvement protestant évangélique francophone au Québec relève d'une définition de la mission qui est orientée principalement vers l'évangélisation et la plantation d'Églises locales. Ses appuis missiologiques se fondent sur la théologie de la croissance de l'Église. En dépit de son engagement missionnaire indéfectible, nous pensons que le mouvement devrait accorder plus d'attention à l'analyse de ses fondements missiologiques. En tenant compte des avancées du siècle dernier, nous proposons au mouvement de renouveler ses fondements à partir de la théologie de la mission qui semble aujourd'hui faire consensus : la missio Dei. Pour justifier sa pertinence, nous ferons une analyse de l'architecture biblique des deux théologies c'est à dire la théologie de la croissance de l'Église et celle de la missio Dei. D'abord concerné par le royaume de Dieu, ce « nouveau » paradigme de la mission ouvre la voix à la mise en œuvre d'une plus grande diversité d'activités missionnaires qui reflète toute l'amplitude et la portée de l'Évangile du royaume. Devant les défis que représente le Québec contemporain pour la foi chrétienne, nous pensons qu'un tel virage pourrait soutenir plus adéquatement l'activité missionnaire du mouvement et, par le fait même, manifester la pertinence et la raison d'être de la foi chrétienne. À la lumière des orientations théologiques que nous offre la missio Dei, nous proposons de construire un projet de contextualisation s'appuyant sur les modèles synthétique et anthropologique de Stephen Bevans. L'application de ce modèle nous conduira à la reconnaissance de sources identitaires culturelles dans lesquelles le mouvement a pris son envol dans les années 1970. Non seulement ne sont-elles pas étrangères à son émergence, mais elles pourraient bien constituer une base importante pour la définition d'un actuel projet missionnaire. / The missionary activity of the French Protestant Evangelical Movement in Québec derives from a definition of mission that is primarily oriented towards evangelism and the planting of local churches. This definition is founded on the theology of Church growth. In spite of its unshakeable missionary commitment, we believe that the movement needs to pay more attention to an analysis of its missiological foundation. On the basis of the development in missiological thinking over the last century, we propose that the movement should renew its foundation drawing from the theology of mission that seems today to form a consensus: the theology of missio Dei. With the goal of demonstrating the pertinence of the theology of missio Dei, we begin with an analysis of the biblical structure of the two theologies, the theology of Church growth and that of missio Dei. Concerned first of all with the Kingdom of God, the “new” paradigm of mission that is missio Dei opens the way for the initiation of a much larger diversity of missionary activities that reflect the breadth of the Gospel of the Kingdom. Faced with the challenges that contemporary Québec presents for the Christian faith, we believe that this new orientation could more adequately support the missionary activity of the French Protestant Evangelical Movement in Québec, and as such, more adequately demonstrate the pertinence and the basis for the Christian faith to the Québecois. In the light the theological orientations provided by the missio Dei, we propose the development of a project of contextual theology based on the synthetic and anthropological models from Stephen Bevans. The application of these models leads us to the recognition of the sources of cultural identity out of which the French Protestant Evangelical Movement was born in the 1970s. These sources of origin then provide an important component for our definition of a contemporary missionary project.
