Previous issue date: 2012-09-26 / Aiming to recover the trajectory of thirty-one Encounters Debate on Teaching of Chemistry (EDEQs), occurred in Rio Grande do Sul was intended to understand how this event has boosted the contribution to the continuing education of teachers as well as for research in the teaching of chemistry. To research the central themes were identified, those responsible for the coordination and organization of events and places of execution, specific activities, those responsible for lectures and tutorials, as well as the schedules of each event in the period 1980-2011. At this stage, the investigation was carried out through desk research, a database gathering all possible documents in order to understand how EDEQs have been collaborating for innovation and qualification of teachers of chemistry. Thus, it was possible to see the evolution of the structure of events. Were also conducted interviews with some of the events coordinators, which were aimed at identifying the contributions EDEQs had to qualify, innovation and training teachers of chemistry. The interviews allowed to identify some of the consequences EDEQs, such as the occurrence of other events in the area of teaching chemistry in Brazil, the advancement of scientific production in the area of the creation of Chemical Education graduate courses related to this area and the creation of division of Chemical Education of the Brazilian Chemical Society. The use of Textual Analysis Discursive possible to identify four categories of issues associated with EDEQs: Teaching and Education in Chemistry, teaching methodology, teacher training and educational content.
