O presente trabalho consiste em um estudo sobre as trajetórias de famílias abastadas, que concentravam terra, se dedicavam a produção pecuária e possuíam patentes militares, no extremo oeste do Rio Grande de São Pedro. Seu foco recai na antiga paróquia de São Patrício de Itaqui, na segunda metade dos oitocentos. Através do método onomástico e com auxílio de uma gama variada de fontes documentais buscou-se compreender como as famílias em questão adquiriram seu patrimônio e quais estratégias utilizaram para alcançar e reiterar a posição econômica. Percebeu-se que a utilização de mecanismos que asseguravam a reprodução social desta elite agrária local era sustentada pelas relações horizontais e verticais estabelecidas ao longo do tempo, tanto pelo sujeito quanto pela família. No final do século XIX, o capital relacional emergente dos vínculos de parentesco, amizade e clientelagem, permitiam a ampliação e manutenção do patrimônio familiar e contribuíam para assegurar o status, poder e riqueza daqueles que se encontravam no topo da hierarquia social. / This work is a study about the trajectories of wealthy families, which concentrated land, were dedicated to cattle raising and had military rank, in the extreme west of “Rio Grande de São Pedro”. Its focus is on old parish of “São Patricio de Itaqui”, in the second half of the nineteenth century. Through the onomastic method and with the help of a varied range of documentary sources it was sought to understand how these families obtained their patrimony and what were the strategies used to reach and reiterate the economic position. It was noticed that the use of mechanisms that ensured the social reproduction of this agrarian local elite was sustained in the horizontal and vertical relationships established over time, both by subject and by the family. In the end of the nineteenth century, the capital of the emerging relational bonds of kinship, friendship and clientage, allowed the expansion and maintenance of the family patrimony and contributed to ensure status, power and wealth of those who were at the top of the social hierarchy.
