CoordenaÃÃo de AperfeÃoamento de Pessoal de NÃvel Superior / The dissertation on âThe notion of circumstance in the ratiovitalism of Ortega y Gassetâ
develops fundamentally the concept of circumstance as an essential category in the
comprehension of the Ortegan ratiovitalism. In the first chapter, it begins with a brief
historical report, defending the idea that the work of the philosopher is, by nature,
circumstantial, and that the philosophical content present in this concept derives from the
problem of unbalance between Spain and the other European countries in the 19th and 20th
centuries. In the next chapter, one meets the question posed by MarÃas, which is the
relation between circumstance and Metaphysics. Reality bases itself on the radical reality,
which is oneâs own life, and life constitutes itself necessarily in the involvement with
circumstance, thus developing into a perspective view that considers circumstance as an
element of humanity. To understand man as a being with its circumstance implies
considering that human life is a process that goes between authenticity and alteration, with
the possibility of humanization. Man, as the protagonist of his life, takes possession of
circumstance as a vital element for his existence, but this same circumstance, integrated to
life, may assume another dimension. Ortega y Gasset understands that circumstance is
always alteration, and, thus, escapes the original dimension of human. It happens that man,
for being a quehacer, may mingle with circumstance. That means man can, through an
absolute speech, identify himself with some circumstantial element, recognizing his own
being in it. The mass-man is the prototype of this man, that, being altered, leaves the state
of being with his circumstance to turn into the circumstance itself. In this way, it is
considered that the concept of circumstance is a key-concept to comprehending the
Ortegan work. / A dissertaÃÃo sobre âA noÃÃo de circunstÃncia no raciovitalismo de Ortega y Gassetâ desenvolve, fundamentalmente, o conceito de circunstÃncia como categoria fundamental na compreensÃo do raciovitalismo orteguiano. Parte-se, no primeiro capÃtulo, de um breve
relato histÃrico, defendendo a ideia de que a obra do filÃsofo à por natureza circunstancial, e que o conteÃdo filosÃfico, presente neste conceito, parte da problemÃtica do desnÃvel da Espanha em relaÃÃo aos demais paÃses da Europa dos sÃculos XIX e XX. Depara-se, no
capÃtulo seguinte, com uma questÃo posta por MarÃas, que à a relaÃÃo entre circunstÃncia e MetafÃsica. A realidade fundamenta-se desde a realidade radical, que à a vida de cada um; e esta, necessariamente, constitui-se no envolvimento com a circunstÃncia, desencadeando,
assim, uma visÃo perspectivista em que compreende a circunstÃncia como elemento constitutivo do humano. Entender o homem como ser com sua circunstÃncia implica em considerar que a vida humana à processo que transita entre a autenticidade e a alteraÃÃo,
podendo ou nÃo humanizar-se. Por um lado, o homem, como protagonista de sua vida, apropria-se da circunstÃncia como elemento vital para seu existir, porÃm, essa mesma circunstÃncia, que se integra à vida, pode ocupar outra dimensÃo. Ortega y Gasset entende
que a circunstÃncia à sempre alteraÃÃo e, por conseguinte, escapa à dimensÃo original do humano. Ocorre que o homem, por ser um que hacer, pode confundir-se com ela. Isso significa que o homem pode, atravÃs de um discurso absoluto, identificar-se com algum
elemento circunstancial, reconhecendo, neste, o seu prÃprio ser. O homem-massa à o protÃtipo desse homem que, alterado, deixa de ser com sua circunstÃncia, passando a ser a prÃpria circunstÃncia. Considera-se, dessa forma, que o conceito de circunstÃncia à um conceito chave para compreensÃo da obra orteguiana.
