Tendo como referência teórico-metodológica as teorias do imaginário e os textos de Walter Benjamin, busca-se compreender como o jornalismo intervém na construção do imaginário e na constituição de novas simbologias e identidades culturais. A pesquisa consiste em identificar nos textos da publicação mapas e fragmentos significativos que auxiliem na compreensão dessa grande trama cultural que envolveu a consolidação de uma identidade nacional a partir do samba, verificando a dinâmica da inter-relação que se estabelece entre os diversos atores sociais e vetores de força envolvidos, sejam políticos, econômicos, sociais. Procura-se destacar a importância da mediação da crítica musical nos embates simbólicos que envolveram a legitimação de narrativas para a identidade musical brasileira, atentando para a tensão que se formou entre os valores estéticos e determinantes político-ideológicos. Destaca-se, assim, a centralidade da narrativa na construção de nosso imaginário.<br> / Abstract : This dissertation aims to analyse the way the press - more specifically the musical criticism developed by the magazine Revista da Música Popular, published between 1954 e 1956 - has contributed to the building of a Brazilian national identity related to the samba. Having as theoretical and methodical references the theories of the imaginary and the Walter Benjamin's writings, it intends to understand how the journalism interferes in the construction of the imaginary and in the constitution of new simbologies and national identities. This research consists in identify in the texts of the magazine maps and meaningful fragments that could help the comprehension of this huge cultural plot about the consolidation of a national identity related to the samba, verifying the dinamic of the inter-relations established between the many social actors and the vectors of influence connected to them, as political, economical, social. It intends to stress the importance of the mediation of the musical criticism in the symbolic confronts connected to the legitimation of the narratives about a Brazilian musical identity, noticing the tension that forms between the aesthetic values and the political and ideological determinations. This resarch aims to stress, after all, the central importance of narrative to the construction of our imaginary.
