Previous issue date: 1996 / Resumo: Trata-se de uma etnografia realizada a partir de uma pesquisa feita na Unicamp e que empreendeu uma análise de duas situações presentes no cotidiano universitário: a "sala de aula" e a "defesa de tese". A partir deste recorte empírico, é feita uma reflexão sobre a construção do trabalho científico na universidade - as condições sob as quais ele se constrói e as características de sua legitimação -, enfatizando a noção de processo e considerando as duas situações focalizadas como parte constitutiva e como expressão desse processo. Uma vez que se trata do trabalho científico produzido e legitimado na universidade foi necessário compreendê-lo na referência ao contexto universitário e, então, se enfatiza a noção de cultura acadêmica. Por entender a universidade como uma instituição entre cruzada por elementos de várias ordens, as noções acima referidas conferem ao espaço acadêmico e à atividade científica um caráter de permeabilidade e permitem perceber a articulação desses elementos tanto no que se refere à especificidade do contexto acadêmico, como no que diz respeito àquele contexto mais amplo de que a própria universidade faz parte. Essa permeabilidade contempla as relações entre as posições estruturais, entre áreas e especialidades, entre as dimensões individual e grupal, bem como sócio-econômicas, políticas e culturais. O processo anteriormente mencionado é, portanto, o da construção do trabalho científico que corresponde, ao mesmo tempo, àquele pelo qual o pesquisador se faz, a partir de suas experiências, sua história particular e das condições, limites e possibilidades que se apresentam durante sua trajetória na universidade / Abstract: The ethnographic study here presented is based on a research made at the State University of Campinas - UNICAMP - São Paulo, Brazil and analyses the following topics: "class room" and "thesis oral examination" (the viva). It is based on this empirical cut-out that a reflection was made about the construction of scientific work at the University - the conditions on which it is built and its legitimization features - emphasizing the notion of process and considering the two focalized situations as a constructivist part and as an expression of this processo Since the matter regards scientific work produced and legitimated at the University, it has been necessary to understand it in reference to the University context and thus the notion of academic culture is being emphasized. Since we consider the University as an institution crossed by elements of diverse orders, the above mentióned notions confer the academic domain and the scientific activity a character of permeability and they permit to perceive the articulation of these elements both in what refers to the specificy of the academic context and in what refers to that wider context of which the proper University is parto This permeability contemplates the relationships between the structural positions, between domains and specialties, between the individual and group dimensions, as well as between the socio-economical, political and cultural dimensions. The above mentioned process is, therefore, a process of construction of scientific work which corresponds at the same time to the one which forms the researcher, based on his experiences, his private history and the conditions, limits and possibilities occurring during his trajectory at the University / Mestrado / Mestre em Antropologia Social
