Não disponível / This paper aims to know and classify educational approaches used to reduce the severity and morbidity of traffic accidents reviewing models for health education and traffic safety. The author has selected press articles about the \"traffic violence\" theme and related public interventions in the city of São Paulo, from 1977 to 1987, with the purpose of identifying the educational policies for traffic safety, public intervention: regarding pedestrians\' deaths as well as the campaigns to reduce the severity and morbidity of traffic accidents. An epidemiological approach was tried on in order to compare the results of the strategies of traffic safety policy established and the level of deaths caused by traffic accidents in the city of São Paulo during the period of study. This approach was considered rather restrictive, by the author, for evaluating the impact of those policies.
