Previous issue date: 2002 / Resumo: O esqueleto cefálico como um todo é genericamente denominado "crânio" e compreende os ossos e respectivas articulações que envolvem o encéfalo e os que formam a face, relacionando-os com os sistemas respiratório, digestivo e sensorial. A presente pesquisa teve por objetivo estudar as características diferenciais entre os crânios pertencentes a indivíduos de ambos os sexos pelo estudo das seguintes medidas: medida BI-zigomática, próstio-glabela, próstio-espinha nasal anterior e medida bi-temporal. Para a realização da pesquisa foram utilizados 200 crânios com procedência conhecida e de absoluta certeza quanto ao sexo, cor da pele e idade de indivíduos adultos, provindos do Cemitério Imaculada Conceição da cidade de Campinas, do estado de São Paulo, Brasil. As medidas (mm) das distâncias foram realizadas com auxílio de um paquímetro e um goniômetro, e os resultados foram submetidos a análise estatística (regressão logística) e verificou-se que todos as medidas estudadas são dimórficas e estabeleceu uma fórmula para a determinação do sexo ( logito= 30,4480 - 0,2461. Bi-zigomático) a que pertence o crânio, de forma prática e confiável, com um índice de confiabilidade de 82,2%. Concluiu-se que trata-se de um método eficiente e que pode ser utilizado para a identificação do sexo em avaliações futuras, podendo ser utilizada nos serviços de antropologia e Institutos Médico-Legais com alta confiabilidade. Tal estudo possibilitará também a praticidade de um cálculo computadorizado / Abstract: The cephalic skeleton as a whole generically is called skull and understands the bones and respective toggles that involve encephalon and the ones that form the face, relating them with the systems respiratory, digestive and sensory. The present research had for objective to study the distinguishing features between the pertaining skulls the individuais of both the sex for the study of the following measures: BI-zigomática measure, próstio-glabela, previous nasal próstio-spine and bi.temporal measure. For the accomplishment of the research 200 skulls with known origin and of absolute certainty how much to the sex had been used, color of the skin and age of adult individuais, come from the Immaculate Cemetary Conceição of the city of Campinas, of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The measures (mm) of the pitches had been carried through with one aid pachymeter and one gauge, and the results had been submitted the analysis statistics (logistic regression) and were verified that ali the studied measures are dimorphics and established a formula for the determination of sex (logito = 30.4480.0.2461. Bi-zigomático) the one that belongs the skull, of practical and trustworthy form, with an index of 82.2% reliability. One concluded that one is about an efficient method and that it can be used for the identification of the sex in future evaluations, being able to be used in the jobs of anthropology and Medicolegais Justinian codes with high reliability.
