This study will focus on how teachers motivate students to read and write. The questions that will be answered in this study are: How do teachers motivate students in literacy? How does the teacher work with methods to motivate students in literacy? How do the teachers look upon their role to create motivation for students in literacy? The participants in this study are three teachers who teach in separate classes, grade 1-3 just to achieve some kind of spread in the result. The methods that will be used are interviews and observations so that the two may complement each other. The result shows that the teachers motivate their students by using encouragement to strengthen their students' self-esteem and their belief in themselve in literacy. The teachers believe they have a big role when it comes to creating motivation for their students to achieve literacy.
