Tendo como base dados antropológicos, históricos, literários e biográficos, esta obra coloca em relação a sociedade colonial-imigrante clássica do sul do Brasil, representada paradigmaticamente pela Capela de Três Vendas de Catuípe (RS), com o sertão – o interior agrário – de Minas Gerais, tal como ele aparece no romance Grande sertão: veredas, de João Guimarães Rosa. E sobrepondo estas realidades conclui que ambas, na forma factual-histórica a primeira e na forma simbólica literária a segunda, exemplificam o processo da passagem intempestiva de sociedades agrárias tradicionais particulares para a sociedade urbanoindustrial planetária. Ao final, a biografia intelectual do Autor é apresentada como ícone testemunhal do fenômeno analisado. / On the basis of anthropological, historical, literary and biographical data, this study compares the classical southern brazilian immigrant society with the agricultural interior (sertão) of the state of Minas Gerais. The former is represented paradigmatically by the Chapel of Três Vendas de Catuípe (state of Rio Grande do Sul), and the latter appears as it is depicted in the novel Grande sertão: veredas, by João Guimarães Rosa. Superimposing these realities, it is concluded that both (in factual-historical form, in the first case, and literary-symbolic form, in the second) exemplify the process of the sudden passage from specific traditional agricultural societies to the global urban-industrial society. Finally, the intellectual biography of the author is presented as testament to the phenomenon under analysis.
