Bakgrund Övervikt och fetma är ett globalt växande problem. Stigmatisering och diskriminering mot personer med övervikt och fetma förekommer i alla samhällets kontexter, så även inom hälso- och sjukvården och förvärrar situationen för de drabbade. Det förekommer att hälso- och sjukvårdpersonal har förutfattade meningar och fördömande attityder gentemot personer med övervikt och fetma. Syfte Syftet med litteraturstudien var att beskriva hur patienter med övervikt eller fetma upplever hälso- och sjukvården. Metod Strukturerad litteraturstudie med inslag av metodologin som används vid systematiska litteraturöversikter. Litteraturöversiktens resultat baseras på 16 vetenskapliga artiklar som analyserats med en integrativ analysmetod. Resultat Resultatet delades in i fyra huvudteman; Negativa upplevelser, Ojämlika förutsättningar, Positiva upplevelser och Kommunikation med tillhörande subteman. Patienter har upplevelser av stigmatisering och diskriminering inom hälso- och sjukvården och att hälso- och sjukvårdspersonal är mycket fokuserade på vikten. Patienter upplever att personal saknar kunskap om övervikt och fetma och dess komplexitet. Ett bättre bemötande upplevdes inom specialiserad obesitasvård. Slutsats Patienter med övervikt och fetma upplever olika grader av stigma och diskriminering. Patienter avstår från att söka vård, vilket kan resultera i att små problem kan bli till stora och ett onödigt lidande. / Background Overweight and obesity are an increasingly worldwide spread problem. Stigma and prejudices against people with overweight or obesity exist in every social context, including health care, which makes the situation for the affected even worse. Health care personnel tend to have assumptions and denouncing attitudes towards people with overweight or obesity. Aim To describe how patients with overweight or obesity are experiencing the health care. Method A structured literature review with elements from the methodology used in systematic literature reviews. The result of the review is based on 16 scientific articles which were analyzed with an integrative analysis. Results The result was divided into four main themes: Negative experiences, Unequal presumptions, Positive experiences and Communications, which then were followed by subthemes. Patients have experiences of stigmatization and discrimination in health care and that health care personnel have a primary focus on the patients’ weight. Patients experience that health care personnel have a lack of knowledge about overweight and obesity as well as of its complexity. Patients experienced a better approach from healthcare personnel in specialized obesitas care. Conclusions Patients with overweight or obesity experience different levels of stigmatization and discrimination in health care. Patients avoid help seeking, which may cause smaller issues to become more serious conditions. Mainly, it leads to an unnecessary suffering.
