________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This dissertation deals with the following central aims: (i) to investigate sociolinguistic issues of the terms of medicament instructions (directions of use) under a functionalist perspective and (ii) to build up a glossary with the most current terms of the directions of use for the pacients. The corpus is made up of 572 directions of use being addressed to the pacients from the so-called Compêndio de Bulas de Medicamentos, (Compendium of Directions of Medicament Use), V. 1 and 2, which have been published in print version and have been made available on the Anvisa website. As for terminological issues, the resorting of affixes and roots of cultered origins (Latin and Greek) within formation of the UTs has been found. Is bases have been analyzed by the approaches of Martin Mingorance’s Modelo Lexemático Funcional (Mingorance, 1987, 1990 and 1995), as well as by Dik (1990) and (1993). By means of Faulstich´s Constructo (Faulstich, 2001), criterias for the classification of the texts of the directions of uses have been established in terms of three stages. The predominance of the competetive variants in texts of the +cientific stage has been proved, as well as that of the co-occurrent variants in +banalized texts and the concurrent variants – particularly the lexical variant and the variant of discourse register – in the directions of the vulgarization stage. As for terminographic issues, the Z-Termino programme favoured the automatic generation of 1.070 terminographic cards, which have been converted to word format. The programme SCP also proved to be quite efficient for the extraction of UTCs and facilitated the term selection according to the more regular and specific affixes of the medical terminology (Sager, 1993 and Manuila, 2003).
