Previous issue date: 1998 / Resumo: Esta dissertação focaliza o espaço cultural da escola pública, em alguns de seus de-te antes históricos e sociais e analisa atividades desenvolvidas pela professora pesquisadora envolvendo máscaras, teatro, literatura e ensino de ciências, vividas com turmas de S- a 8- séries do 1- grau, em escolas públicas de Macaé (RJ) e Campinas (SP). Essas atividades são discutidas em diversas relações que foram estabelecidas, visando a compreender as dificuldades e sobretudo as possibilidades das práticas pedagógicas envolvendo produções culturais. As reflexões sobre o teatro na escola, permeadas pela história do teatro no Brasil, evidenciam nessas atividades
traços do teatro didático e catequético e também movimentos de liberdade, convidando a buscarem-se alternativas para explorar, na escola, outras possibilidades que o teatro comporta. Este trabalho apresenta ainda elementos teóricos sobre a lingua-
gem científica e a linguagem poética interessantes ao professor, no seu lidar com as produções culturais / Abstract: The present work focuses the cultural space of the public school, in some of its bistoric and social aspects, and analyses activities that were developed by the teacher
researcher involving masks .theater, literature and science teaching, with classes of middle school in Macaé(RJ) and Campinas(SP). These activities are discussed through several relationships that were here established, in order to understand the difficulties, and mainly the possibilities of the pedagogic practices involving cultural productions. The analysis concerning the theater in the school, permeated by the history oí the theater in Brazil, evidences traces oí the catechetic and didactic theater,
and also freedom movements in their activities, inviting to the searching of altematives to explore, in the school, other possibilities that the theater has. This work also provides theoretical elements concerning scientific language and poetic language, that are interesting to the teacher, in his work with cultural productions / Mestrado / Metodologia do Ensino / Mestre em Educação
