Previous issue date: 2006 / Resumo: Nas últimas décadas registrou-se um incremento no número de assentamentos rurais e, conseqüentemente, da população assentada no Brasil, embora não se possa ainda constatar um reordenamento fundiário importante. Mas, mesmo assim, os assentamentos passam a fazer parte da realidade rural brasileira. Neste novo espaço que vai se construindo ao longo dos anos há o estabelecimento de relações sociais entre os indivíduos e entre esses e as diversas instituições e organizações que se fazem presentes nestes assentamentos. Tendo em vista, que essas relações estabelecidas podem ter valores que constituem o capital social, este trabalho objetivou analisar as relações sociais que se estabeleceram entre as instituições e organizações e os assentados que convergiram num processo organizativo no interior dos assentamentos São Bento e Santa Clara/Che Guevara, localizados no município de Mirante do Paranapanema, na região do Pontal do Paranapanema em São Paulo. Nossa hipótese é a de que nas áreas e nas organizações onde a participação dos indivíduos, seja por meio de parcerias formais ou informais, é acentuada, conseqüentemente haverá uma maior presença de capital social, o que poderá se traduzir no desenvolvimento desses assentamentos. As diferentes instituições e organizações presentes nestes assentamentos respondem algumas vezes por fortes vinculações entre seus participantes e outras por relações extremamente tênues, o que nos leva a perceber, por um lado, a existência de um capital social já estabelecido mas, por outro, há ainda a necessidade de que as relações sociais entre os atores envolvidos se tornem mais sólidas. Percebemos que nos diferentes grupos encontrados há uma esperança entre os seus participantes para que essa atitude organizativa simbolize uma melhoria das condições de vida / Abstract: In the last decades there has been noticed an increase in the number of rural settlements and, consequently, in the settlers population in Brazil, although it is not yet possible to verify any important rearrangement in the land ownership structure. Even so, the rural settlements become a part of the Brazilian agriculture reality. In this new scenario that is being built along the years, there is the establishment of social relations among the settlers and between them and the several institutions and organizations present in these rural settlements. Considering that these established relations may show values that constitute the social capital, this work aimed to analyze the social relations established between the institutions and organizations and the rural settlements, which converged to an organization process in the São Bento and Santa Clara/Che Guevara settlements, in the Mirante do Paranapanema County, located in the Pontal do Paranapanema region, in the State of Sao Paulo. Our hypothesis relies in the fact that in the areas and organizations where the settlers¿ involvement is higher, by means of formal or informal partnership, the presence of social capital is also higher, what may signify the development of these settlements. The different institutions and organizations present in these settlements are answerable, sometimes, for a strong link between their participants and, other times, for extremely tenuous relations, what makes us to realize, on the one hand, the existence of an established social capital, but, on the other hand, that there is the need of stronger social relation between the involved people.
