Syfte: Syftet med studien var att ta reda på upplevelsen av att få diagnosen typ 2 diabetes i samband med hjärtinfarkt. Metod: Sju individer intervjuades utifrån en intervjuguide. Data analyserades med kvalitativ innehållsanalys för att kunna beskriva variationer av individernas upplevelser. Resultat: I intervjuerna framkom att en del av informanterna inte hade fått reda på att de hade typ 2 diabetes medan andra kände sig besvärade att få diagnosen eftersom de inte kände sig sjuka. En del upplevde rädslan för att dö i samband med hjärtinfarkten som störst medan andra beskrev rädslan för diabeteskomplikationer som störst. Upplevelserna kunde kategoriseras i fyra kategorier: rädsla, förståelse, kontroll och kunskap. För att kunna möta patienterna krav på information under en omtumlande period krävs lyhördhet och samordning hos olika vårdgivare. / Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate how individuals experience receiving the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes in relation to a myocardial infarction. Methods: Seven individuals were interviewed on the basis of an interview guide. Data was analyzed with a qualitative method in order to be able to describe the variations in the individuals’ experiences. Results: From the interviews emerged that some of the individuals had not been informed of their type 2 diabetes while others were bothered by the diagnosis since they did not feel ill. Some experienced the fear of dying from the myocardial infarction as their biggest concern while others described the fear of complications from their diabetes as their main worry. Individuals’ experiences of suffering from type 2 diabetes in relation to a myocardial infarction could be categorized into four subcategories: fear, understanding, control and knowledge. In order to appropriately meet the patients´ demands regarding information during a difficult period, it is important to be sensitive to their needs and to coordinate efforts between different institutions of care.
