Ikoner på myndighetshemsidor : Hur dessa tolkas och varför

Swedish Government Agencies’ websites are an ever-increasing part of societal benefit with more and more things moving to the web. To accommodate the wide variety of people coming to these websites to procure information, use government services, etc., it is important that the symbols used are easy to understand by anyone. Previous research has been made on the subject of icon design in terms of accuracy and performance but not much research has been done to see if the icons used by important societal infrastructure on the internet are designed to accommodate the users these websites are visited by every day. We conducted a study to test this out using a questionnaire to record data on how people interpret these icons. The data was then analyzed and showed that the symbols used by Swedish Government Agencies are difficult to understand, mainly due to having elements of design that causes confusion as the interpretation did not align with the intended meaning. An updated set of icons was procured and tested using the same methods which gave further insight into how these icons can be improved.
