A Different Kinda Healthcare : En registerstudie av den nuvarande och framtida sjukvårdskonsumtionen i Kinda kommun / A Different Kinda Healthcare : A registry study of healthcare consumption in Kinda municipality today and in the future

Life expectancy is increasing in Sweden, and the population is expected to continue to grow. In addition to the population getting older, the number of chronic diseases is increasing, and more people are becoming multimorbid. This results in patients often needing care from multiple healthcare providers. In the Kinda municipality, the possibility of establishing a so-called healthcare center is being considered with the goal of better integrating healthcare and providing patients with care closer to home. We are investigating how a changed healthcare supply, in the form of a healthcare center, may impact the residents of Kinda municipality by forecasting and analyzing future healthcare consumption.  "A Different Kinda Healthcare" involves the establishment of a healthcare center with specialized clinics, self-monitoring at home, and local care facilities. The establishment of a healthcare center has the potential to free up resources in inpatient care, as patients who are currently treated in hospitals without significant need could be transferred to local care facilities. There, they would receive the supervision they require without occupying resources in inpatient care that they do not need. With a utilization rate of 100 percent for the local care facilities, and assuming these are occupied by patients transferred from inpatient care, between 4 and 58 million SEK can be released from inpatient care (depending on the estimated daily cost). The exact cost of the transfers will affect how many resources can be freed up. Considering the high demand for outpatient care at Linköping University Hospital in general, and particularly in psychiatry, it is proposed to reallocate resources from the Psychiatric Clinic to the healthcare center. Regarding the relocation of primary care from vårdcentralen Kisa to patients' homes through the use of self-monitoring for specific diagnoses, the number of visits to vårdcentralen Kisa may decrease, thus freeing up resources. However, it is important to consider the costs of the technology and other relevant factors to ensure a successful implementation of self-monitoring. Finally, it is important to ensure collaboration regarding the changing healthcare services. However, if the healthcare center is established, this is not a fixed end state, and therefore, the importance of continuing to evaluate its effectiveness is emphasized.
