O texto analisa a instalação dos migrantes de origem ítala e teuta # em sua maioria, vindo do Rio Grande do Sul # a compra de lotes coloniais, característicos da ocupação do local no período em questão, na região que, em 1934, passou a ser o município de Caçador e nas áreas circunvizinhas. Essa análise perpassa o processo de derrubada da mata e as importantes transformações que ocorreram tanto no meio ambiente como nos novos habitantes locais, além, especialmente, da importância que a Floresta Ombrófila Mista (mata predominante na região) desempenhou na história do Alto Vale do Rio do Peixe.
This work aims to investigate the relation between humans and the transformation of the forest cover during the settlement process of the Peixe river high-valley, in the state of Santa Catarina, enclosing the period after the Contestado war till mid-twenty century. The text analyzes the settlement performed by ítala-origin and teuta-origin migrants # the most number of them had come from Rio Grande do Sul # and the purchase of colonial lots # a typical phenomenon in the land occupation pattern in the area that, in 1934, came to be the city of Caçador and its vicinities. This analysis includes the deforestation process and the important transformations occurred in the environment as much as those involving the new inhabitants, as well as the important role that the #Floresta Ombrófila Mista# (the predominant regional forest cover) played in the history of the Peixe river high-valley.
