Previous issue date: 2009 / This dissertation analyzes the thought of Adorno from the point of view of the possibilities of emancipation. To this end, we discuss not only the reasons which have led humanity to barbarism and the inability to transcend the given reality, but also the moments when the author suggests the impossibility of a total control of individual liberties by the objective world – although it’s very coercive. The intention is to let it shown that, despite the tendency of the Enlightenment to unstoppable progress and further development of capitalism in a system closed in on itself – and therefore able to block attempts to transformation through social organizations – Adorno firmly believes in the power of critical theory as a form of praxis and in the possibility that some individuals, through continuous efforts, will assume a self-critical and resistant attitude before themselves and society. If ways of history are not determined, why not to think we can have a better future? / Este trabalho pretende apresentar o pensamento de Adorno sob o ponto de vista das possibilidades de emancipação. Para tal fim, discutem-se tanto as razões que teriam conduzido a humanidade à barbárie e à incapacidade de transcender a dada realidade, como também os momentos em que o autor parece indicar a impossibilidade de uma total apreensão das liberdades subjetivas pelo mundo objetivo – por coativo que esse seja. Intenta-se deixar demonstrado que, a despeito da tendência do Esclarecimento ao progresso irrefreável e do posterior desenvolvimento do capitalismo em um sistema fechado sobre si mesmo – e, portanto, apto a bloquear as tentativas de transformação através das organizações sociais – Adorno acredita firmemente no poder da teoria como uma forma de práxis e na possibilidade de que alguns indivíduos, mediante ininterruptos esforços, venham a assumir uma postura autocrítica e resistente diante de si mesmos e da sociedade. Se os caminhos da história não estão definidos, por que não pensar que o que há de vir poderá ser melhor?
