This is a sectional study of a descriptive character carried out in the second semester of the dentistry course with the incoming students. Three validated instruments, DASS 21 (Depression, Anxiety and Stress 21) were applied to analyze the symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression; PEVI (Individual Lifestyle Profile) and QVA-r (Academic Experience Questionnaire - reduced version) to analyze the adaptation of incoming students. In addition, salivary cortisol levels were measured to verify the stress levels of the students in two different periods: at the time of the test and during the class. Laboratory analysis was performed using the ELISA method. The correlation coefficients and the Mann-Whitney test, at 5% significance, were determined. Most of the students (81.57%) left home to enter higher education and few of them had a paid work (7%). Among the domains of the lifestyle, the students presented a profile below the desirable one in Nutrition, Physical Activity and Control of the Stress. Nutrition alone was influenced by the socioeconomic profile (p = 0.014). The variables: alcohol consumption and smoking (p = 0.017) and rest time (p = 0.018) were significantly higher among students of the night course. The presence of stress was higher among the subjects (45%) and was associated with the Personal (-0.518) and Interpersonal (-0.251) domains. Cortisol levels during the test presented a correlation with higher scores in the domains Study (0,197), Career 0.347) and Institutional (0.196). Academicians who had the course and university as the first choice, had the highest scores in the Career (p = 0.024) and... / Mestre
