Grounding the Clouds : Examining cloud storage services and their general capacity for growing more sustainable

In the year 2022, 3 years after the Covid-19 infection outbreak, humanity is dealing with the aftermath of the pandemic and one of the greatest side effects being speeding up the already rapid digitalisation of our everyday lives. The aim of this project is to examine the possibility of decentralisation of data storage services through: examining the relationship of an off-grid eco community with existing cloud storage services by mapping out a system around them, and afterwards to suggest a concept of a tool which would empower the community to engage with managing their own clouds. I branched out my literature review into several areas: ecology, economy, social and cultural sustainability, for design methods I relied on speculative design, service design and systemic.
