The purpose of this thesis is to try to improve the interaction between people suffering from dementia and their close relatives, to give more support to the close relative to develop the relationship as the disease progresses and hopefully create a better experience of this often difficult time. The method i chose to work accordingly to is the “double diamond” method with discover, define, develop and deliver as the main parts. Through out all of these stages user testing and user feedback has been the main navigator in what decisions to take. The result of this thesis ended up as a tray that you have on the table in between the close relative and the relative with dementia. You interact with the tray by lifting and touching the pieces that has different tactility, pictures and text on them to have something to start up a conversation or break a loop that people with dementia often falls into with repeating the same question over and over again. This tray will work as a conversation supporter since one of the biggest problems that occurred during the discover phase was that close relatives didn’t know what to talk about when they met their sick parents/grandparents. This led them to feel hesitant to pay a visit though feeling guilty that they should. The conclusion is that this product will for many close relatives make the interaction easier with their parents/grandparents and that leading to them have a better experience of their encounter.
