La genèse du théâtre arabe moderne à la deuxième moitié du XIXe siècle est directement liée à la découverte du théâtre de forme occidentale. Dès ses débuts, il se trouve associé à Molière et à un discours prônant le redressement et la modernité. Notre étude tend, à partir d’un corpus composé des premières adaptations de Molière au Liban, en Égypte et en Tunisie, d’observer le processus d’appropriation du théâtre de Molière et la mise en place d’une tradition théâtrale moderne à travers une démarche composite consistant essentiellement à emprunter des procédés à la comédie moliéresque et aux formes héritées du théâtre traditionnel arabe afin de répondre à un horizon d’attente en constante mutation. Nous nous interrogerons sur le rôle du dramaturge français dans la construction d’un langage dramatique et sur son importance dans le répertoire du théâtre arabe moderne. / The genesis of modern Arab theatre in the second half of the 19th century is directly linked to the discovery of theatre in its Western form. From its beginning, modern Arab theatre was associated with Molière and with a discourse advocating progress and recovery. Based on a corpus composed of the first adaptations of Molière in Lebanon, Egypt and Tunisia, this thesis traces the process of appropriation of the theatre of Molière and the establishment of a modern theatrical tradition. This tradition borrows from Molièresque comedy and inherited forms of traditional Arab theatre in order to respond to a horizon of reception in constant mutation. The thesis interrogates the role of French dramaturgy in the construction of a dramatic language and its importance in the reportoire of modern arab theatre.
