Med en miljon nya fall årligen är bröstcancer den vanligaste formen av cancer hos kvinnan. Syftet med denna litteraturstudie var att belysa sjuksköterskans stödjande och informativa roll gentemot kvinnor med bröstcancer samt betydelsen av detta. Vi ville ta reda på vad sjuksköterskans stödjande och informativa roll innebär, vilka de bröstcancersjuka kvinnornas behov är och slutligen hur sjuksköterskan kan bemöta dessa behov. Metoden var en litteraturstudie av 11 vetenskapliga artiklar som granskades enligt Polit, Beck och Hunglers (2001) kriterier för vetenskaplighet. Resultatet visar att man kan se på stöd och information, i form av omvårdnadsåtgärder, som komponenter i en multidimensionell konstruktion istället för två separata åtgärder. Patientens behov av stöd och information kan komma att ändras under sjukdomsprocessen, vilket sjuksköterskan måste vara lyhörd för. Detta förutsätter att sjuksköterskan utvecklar en god relation till patienten. En adekvat utbildning som ger sjuksköterskan säkerhet att kunna agera professionellt gentemot patienten är av stor betydelse / With one million new cases in the world each year, breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women. The aim of this literature review was to highlight the registered nurse´s supportive and informative role concerning female breast cancer patients and to illustrate the meaning of this. We wanted to examine what the nurse´s supportive and informative roll involves, what the women´s needs are and finally how the nurse is going to meet those needs. The method was a literature review of 11 scientific articles that was analysed according to Polit, Beck and Hungler (2001). The result shows that there are possibilities to look at information and support, in terms of nursing, as components in a multidimensional construction instead of two separate proceedings. The patient´s need of support and information may change along the course of the disease, a fact the nurse must be sensitive to. This also implies that the nurse establishes a good relationship to the patient. An adequate education that provides the nurse with skills and confidence to perform her work with professionalism is of great importance.
