Este trabalho foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de promover a ocorrência de uma aprendizagem significativa e a alfabetização científica e tecnológica (ACT) de estudantes de Ensino Fundamental, no contexto da Educação Ambiental, por meio da construção de uma Ilha Interdisciplinar de Racionalidade (IIR) com o tema “a importância da água”. Esta proposta buscou promover os atributos da ACT (a autonomia, a comunicação e o domínio sobre o tema) nos estudantes por meio de práticas interdisciplinares voltadas para a preservação da água. Buscou também, analisar os conhecimentos prévios dos estudantes, quanto à relevância das questões ambientais no contexto escolar. A metodologia IIR foi desenvolvida com alunos do oitavo ano do Ensino Fundamental. A pesquisa desenvolvida neste trabalho realizou-se por meio de uma abordagem qualitativa; de natureza aplicada; descritiva, quanto aos objetivos; participante, quanto aos procedimentos. A construção da IIR promoveu a interação entre os estudantes por meio de atividades interdisciplinares em pequenos grupos, motivando-os a investigar sobre a temática água, e a compartilhar com seus colegas de equipe. A avaliação da IIR foi realizada por meio de avaliações diagnósticas, práticas experimentais e ações coletivas que foram compartilhadas com os demais estudantes da escola e a comunidade escolar. Durante a construção da IIR, e nas produções dos estudantes, foi possível observar o desenvolvimento da autonomia e um aprimoramento nos seus processos de comunicação, bem como uma melhor compreensão da importância da preservação da água. Também foi possível observar que os estudantes tornaram-se mais ativos no processo de ensino e aprendizagem, conseguindo apropriar-se dos conteúdos relacionados ao tema “a importância da água” de maneira interdisciplinar. Finalmente, pode-se afirmar que a pesquisa realizada neste trabalho é a primeira que utiliza a metodologia IIR no Ensino Fundamental abordando um tema relacionado à “água”. / Centro sul brasileiro de pesquisa, extensão e pós-graduação. / This work was developed with the objective of promoting the occurrence of meaningful learning and scientific and technological literacy (STL) of elementary school students, in the context of Environmental Education, through the construction of an Interdisciplinary Island of Rationality (IIR) about "the importance of water". This proposal sought to promote the LTC attributes (the autonomy, the communication and the mastery over the subject) in students through interdisciplinary practices aimed at water preservation. It also sought to analyze students' previous knowledge about the relevance of environmental issues in the school context. The IIR methodology was developed with eighth grade students. The research developed in this work was carried out through a qualitative approach; of applied nature; descriptive in relation to the objectives; participant, regarding the procedures. The construction of the IIR promoted the interaction among the students through interdisciplinary activities in small groups, motivating them to investigate on the water theme, and to share with their teammates. The IIR assessment was performed through diagnostic evaluations, experimental practices and collective actions that were shared with the other students of the school and with the school community. During the construction of the IIR, and in students’ productions, it was possible to observe the development of autonomy and an improvement in' communication processes, as well as a better understanding of the importance of water preservation. It was also possible to observe that the students became more active in the teaching and learning process, being able to learn the content related to the subject “the importance of water” in an interdisciplinary way. Finally, it can be affirmed that the research carried out in this work is the first one that applies the IIR methodology in Elementary School addressing a theme related to "water".
