Previous issue date: 1992 / Resumo: Não informado / Abstract: In the end of this century, local energy shortages are a problem in many parts of the world. This is also true for Brazil. This thesis intends to show ways to minimize the alcohol production costs through energy conservation in its production. It also intends to qualify and, whenever possible, to quantify, with the avaiable data, potential measures to rationalize the use of energy in the alcohol and sugar production, especially in the utilization of steam in the various production stages. The broad, detailed and flexible use of the computer as a fundamental tool in such rationalization is a large difference between this and others works with similar goals. Computer routines for thermodynarnics analyses, technical empiric relations and economic analyses have been developed for the several stages and equiprnents using steam in the sugar and alcohol plants / Mestrado / Mestre em Planejamento de Sistemas Energéticos
