Previous issue date: 2017-02-14 / Este trabalho tem o objetivo de realizar um crítica literária do romance Agá – do autor Hermilo Borba Filho – e que tem como característica marcante a presença do grotesco e de suas imagens do corpo na caracterização dos personagens, e no desenvolvimento das ações. Apesar de o grotesco se fazer presente em quase toda a produção literária de Hermilo Borba Filho, pouco tem se falado sobre o tema, sem falar que a própria reflexão sobre grotesco tem sido feita de maneira limitada, no Brasil, com as discussões sendo geralmente baseadas, apenas, em Victor Hugo, Wolfgang Kaiser e Mikhail Bakhtin. Portanto, este ensaio pretende, primeiramente, preencher essa lacuna sobre as abordagens do grotesco, trazendo para a discussão outros autores, como Geoffrey G. Harpham, Carl Skrade e também Michel Foucault, que é abordado por um caminho menos percorrido sobre o grotesco. Em segundo, analisa-se a presença do grotesco na literatura de Hermilo Borba Filho, na sua obra dramática, nos contos e nos romances, como forma de atestar a importância do grotesco para a concepção poética do autor. Por último, realiza-se uma análise que propõe a leitura do romance Agá pela perspectiva do grotesco e suas imagens do corpo. Isso permite lançar um olhar tanto no significado da ação de seus personagens grotescos, quanto nas relações entre o corpo, o sexo, o sacrifício, o sagrado e a tortura. A denúncia desta última torna o romance de Hermilo Borba Filho em um memorial dos abusos do poder de Estados totalitários, com Agá revelando-se uma literatura comprometida com a justiça e a liberdade do homem. / This work aims to perform a literary criticism of the novel Agá – by author Hermilo Borba Filho – in which there is, as a striking feature, the presence of the grotesque and its body images, in the description of the characters and in the development of actions. Although the grotesque is present in almost all the literary production of Hermilo Borba Filho, little has been said about the theme, not to mention that the very thinking about the grotesque has been done in a limited way, in Brazil, with discussions generally based solely on Victor Hugo, Wolfgang Kaiser and Mikhail Bakhtin. Therefore, this essay seeks first to fill this gap in the approach to the grotesque, bringing to the discussion authors such as Geoffrey G. Harpham, Carl Skrade and also Michel Foucault, seen here through a less trodden path about the grotesque. Second, there is an analysis of the presence of the grotesque in the literature of Hermilo Borba Filho, in his dramatic work, short stories and novels, as way of attesting to the importance of the grotesque to the poetic conception of the author. Finally, there is the analysis that proposes a reading of the novel Agá thorough the perspective of the grotesque and its body images. This allows one to look both at the meaning of the action of its grotesque characters and at the relationships between body, sex, sacrifice, sacredness and torture. The denunciation of the latter makes Hermilo Borba Filho's novel a memorial of the abuses of the power of totalitarian states, with Agá displaying a literature committed to justice and the freedom of man.
