Begreppet ”palliativ” kommer från det latinska begreppet ”pallium” som betyder mantel och innebär lindrande vård istället för kurativ eller botande. Palliativ vård innebär inte enbart att ge stöd och omsorg till patienten utan även till de närstående. Omvårdnad av patienter som är döende kan vara psykiskt påfrestande och påverka sjuksköterskan både privat och i sin yrkesroll. Syftet med studien var att beskriva sjuksköterskans upplevelser av att vårda patienter i ett palliativt slutskede. Metoden som användes var en systematisk litteraturstudie där elva artiklar analyserades. Resultatet presenteras utifrån tre kategorier; sjuksköterskans yrkesroll, faktorer som påverkar sjuksköterskans välbefinnande och faktorer som påverkar den palliativa omvårdnaden samt tretton underkategorier. Sjuksköterskorna valde att bemästra sin arbetssituation antingen genom att involvera sig i patienten eller distansera sig. Det framkom flera olika faktorer som försvårade den palliativa omvårdnaden, bland annat brist på utbildning. Sammanfattningsvis visade denna studie att sjuksköterskan påverkas av att arbeta inom palliativ omvårdnad, men på olika sätt beroende på tidigare arbetserfarenhet och personliga egenskaper. / The conception of ”Palliative” originates from the Latin concept “Pallium” which means relieving care which differentiates from curative care. Palliative care does not only focus on the patient’s wellbeing and comfort but also the intimates. Nursing of dying patients could be mentally trying and affects both the nurses’ private life and its professional role. The purpose of the study was to describe the nurses’ experiences from nursing patients in a palliative final phase. The method that has been used in this thesis is a systematic literature study where eleven articles have been analyzed. The result is presented on the basis of three categories; the nurse’s occupational role, factors that affect the nurse’s wellbeing and factors that influence the palliative nursing together with thirteen subcategories. The nurses in the study chose to manage its professional role in this field either by engage or shun the patient. Several factors were discovered that complicated the palliative nursing, for instance lack of education. The study concludes that the nurse was influenced by exercising palliative nursing. However, previous work experience and personal characteristics determines the way the nurse is affected.
