The purpose of this essay is to examine how China and the US relation may look in the future. It is an interesting case because of the fact that the US since the fall of the Soviet Union have been the only superpower in the world but is getting challenged by China economically as well as military. The main focus in this essay is to investigate whether there is a basis to believe that China and the US will be engaged in an armed war, a cold war or a trade war. The theoretical framework has been built up by different theories regarding trade and peace and the democratic peace as well as the paradigms realism, liberalism, constructivism and Marxism.
