Previous issue date: 2016-05-23 / A pesquisa teve como objetivo investigar o desempenho de alunos do Ensino Médio da
Educação de Jovens e Adultos (EJA) na resolução de atividades de interpretação de gráficos
estatísticos. Para tanto, realizamos um breve estudo sobre a EJA e a Educação Estatística, bem
como sobre os resultados de pesquisas realizadas nestes domínios. Focamos na interpretação
de dados estatísticos contidos em gráficos, considerando as dimensões local (interpretação de
pontos isolados do gráfico), global (interpretação do gráfico como um todo) e variacional
(utilização da variação como forma de interpretação). O interesse pela variação de dados se
justifica por se tratar de um conceito central para a interpretação de gráficos e a tomada de
decisão, além de contribuir para o desenvolvimento do pensamento e letramento estatísticos. A
pesquisa foi realizada com vinte e três alunos do Ensino Médio da EJA, que resolveram cinco
atividades de interpretação de gráficos de linhas e de colunas simples e múltiplas. Os resultados
obtidos mostram que os alunos tiveram mais facilidade para interpretar pontos isolados dos
gráficos propostos, enquanto que apresentaram maior dificuldade para utilizar o conceito de
variação de dados, por exemplo, para quantificar a variabilidade no cálculo da amplitude. Estes
resultados se aproximam dos achados de pesquisas que foram realizados com professores e
alunos dos anos iniciais e finais do Ensino Fundamental e indicam a necessidade de se repensar,
também, o processo de ensino de conteúdos estatísticos aos alunos do Ensino Médio da EJA. / The research aimed to investigate the performance of students from Youth and Adult Education
(EJA) at the high school level, resolving activities of statistical graph interpretation. A literature
review analyzed publications on EJA and Statistics Education. This study focused on the
discussion on the interpretation of statistical data presented in graphs, considering the following
dimensions: local (the interpretation of isolated points of graph), global (the interpretation of
graph as a whole), and variational (the use of variation as a way of interpretation). Such focus
on data variation is justified because it is a central concept for interpretation of graphs and
decision-making, besides to contribute to reflect on statistic thinking and statistical literacy.
The research was conducted with twenty-three students enrolled in EJA, attending high school
classes. They solved five tasks which included interpretation of line graphs, and multiple and
simple column graph. The results show that the interpretation of isolated points of graphs was
easier for the participants. They had more difficult to utilize the concept of data variation, for
example, to quantify the variability in the amplitude calculation. These results are close to
findings of research studies that had been conducted with students in early and final years of
Elementary School, and at teacher education level. This study gave evidence of the need to
rethink teaching process of statistical content to EJA students at high school level.
