Matematik är ett ämne som många elever tycker är tråkigt och somliga är mindre aktiva på lektionerna. Eleverna är dessutom vana vid att arbetet i matematik till stor del styrs av det valda läromedlet och det är ovanligt att annan typ av undervisning förekommer. Detta examensarbetes syfte är att studera elevernas uppfattning om hur en laboration i matematik och dess utformning påverkar deras aktivitet och matematiska förståelse. I arbetet finns en sammanställning av forskning inom området samt en analys av ett arbete där elever i år 7 videofilmats under en lektion i laborativ matematik. Dessutom har eleverna svarat på en enkät i samband med laborationen.Arbetet har visat att vid en laboration där de flesta elever finner en utmaning upplever många elever att de arbetat mer aktivt än under andra lektioner och att grupparbetet fungerar bra. En del upplever att de kommer att minnas den nya matematiska förståelsen. / Many students regard mathematics as a boring subject and several are showing low activity during lessons. The students are used to that the teaching in mathematics is ruled by static means of educational material and the use of alternative teaching methods is rare.The purpose of this thesis work is aimed to see how a group exercise in mathematics will influence the student’s activity and perception of mathematics.The work consists of a science year to date summary and an analysis of 7-grade student’s video film. The students corresponded to a survey in conjunction with the group exercise.The thesis suggest that at a group exercise where most students feel the challenge, the spirit of increasing activity is encouraged during the lesson for the majority of the students. They also feel that group exercise works well. Several students experience that they will remember the new fundamental understanding.
