The aim of the study is to evaluate the possibilities in implementingan automated solution for the window assembly in prefabricated housingproduction as well as to formulate a layout for such a system. Datacollection have mainly been performed through literature studies, interviews and by the study of provided documentation. The factory in which the suggested cell is to be placed is located inSkaraborg, Sweden, where the main output consists of wall components. The designated area for the robot cell is around 36 square meters. Themain task of the system is to assembly four wooden joists togetherwith a window. Several problems have been identified such as windowssometimes arriving at an undesired orientation as well as a highpayload due to the dimensions of larger window components. A layout with the robot fixated in the middle of the cell has beenrecommended. Software such as Solidworks and RobotStudio have beenused to model and simulate different layout concepts. The suggestedlayout has a cycle time of about four minutes as well as a initialinvestment cost of about 1.22 million Swedish crowns.
