Managing knowledge has an important role within organizations and is deemed necessary to remain competitive. A need to work smarter and within shorter production cycles has emerged and prompts for the usage of knowledge management. There is a vast number of big companies that has successfully developed knowledge management project compared to the lack of attention towards the small- and medium-sized enterprises (SME). Knowledge management aims to use and distribute existing knowledge to increase the organizations possibilities of learning more. It requires a combination of both human interactions along with techniques to be able to share knowledge and experiences. This study aims to research the possible conditions and limitations for an SME to use knowledge management. This study shows that primarily documentation of knowledge is crucial in any efforts of using knowledge management. Result of the study shows behavior patterns linked to the theoretical frameworks which indicates positive conditions to apply knowledge management. The biggest limitations that emerged were the spontaneous occasion of documenting knowledge together with under pressure of time and planning.
