Previous issue date: 2006-07-10 / Esta dissertação propõe examinar o fenômeno da ação coletiva institucionalizada no Brasil, pela análise do associativismo civil. Além de mapear, caracterizar e classificar tais organizações, esta pesquisa terá como foco a interpretação desse universo associativo e seu crescimento em anos recentes. Observa-se a influência do Estado, exercida por meio do marco legal aplicável a associações civis, na formatação, na burocratização e no incentivo desse tipo de ação coletiva. O objetivo desta dissertação é analisar tanto o status quo deste universo, quanto sua regulação estatal, para apreciar em que medida isto possibilita o avanço de uma nova institucionalidade democrática participativa ou, pelo contrário, reproduz estruturas de desigualdade que permeiam a sociedade brasileira. _______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This dissertation proposes to examine the phenomenon of institutionalized collective action in Brazil, by analyzing civil associations. In addition to mapping, characterizing and categorizing such organizations, this research will focus on interpreting this associative universe and its growth in recent years. The State's influence, exercised by means of the regulatory framework applicable to civil associations, is perceived in the format and bureaucratic arrangements of, and incentives to, this type of collective action. The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze both this universe's status quo and its regulation by the state and to what extent this enables the advancement of a new democratic and participatory institutional structure or whether, on the contrary, it reproduces inequality patterns that exist in Brazilian society.
