Defesa: Curitiba, 07/07/2016 / Inclui referências : fls. 134-136 / Resumo: Apesar de escrever em paredes ser uma prática que data da Pré-História, o que hoje se conhece como modern graffiti tem suas origens na década de 1970, nos Estados Unidos. Desde então esta forma de expressão artística vem se espalhando ao redor do mundo, incorporando diversas características locais, como é o caso da pichação ("pixação", de acordo com os artistas) no Brasil. Este trabalho adota o termo street art devido à multiplicidade das intervenções, englobando suas cinco vertentes: graffiti, pichação, stencil, sticker e lambe-lambe (PROSSER, 2009). A análise parte de uma perspectiva teórica crítica, promovendo um diálogo entre referencial teórico, entrevistas com artistas, registro fotográfico e informações obtidas de documentários como Pixo (Direção: Roberto T. Oliveira e João Wainer, 2009), e Nos tempos da São Bento (Direção: Guilherme Botelho, 2010). A pesquisa teve como objetivo a comprovação da hipótese de que a street art figura como uma forma de luta pelo "direito à cidade" (LEFEBVRE, 2001). Entendida enquanto um "objeto geográfico de estudo" (SANTOS, 2009), a arte de rua transita dialeticamente entre as categorias Espaço Urbano, Território e Paisagem, em constante conflito entre a "ordem distante" e a "ordem próxima" (LEFEBVRE, 2001), expressando visualmente as emoções, sentimentos, revoltas, afetos, brincadeiras e protestos dos cidadãos/artistas. Para além disso, compreende-se que a street art se caracteriza, não sem contradições, como uma prática de transformação da cidade, pressionando a sociedade, o poder público e as estruturas sociais para o questionamento, a reflexão e, por que não, a criatividade em direção a uma sociedade radicalmente diferente, realizando a "práxis emancipatória" (SOJA, 1996). Graffiti. / Abstract: Writing on walls is a prehistoric practice but what we now know as modern graffiti has its origins in the 1970's in the United States. Since then this form of expression is spreading around the world, incorporating local features, as the pichação ("pixação" according to the artists) in Brazil. This paper uses the term street art (or arte de rua) due to its multiplicity, encompassing the five sorts: graffiti, pichação, stencil, sticker and paste-ups (PROSSER, 2009). The analysis, based on a critic theoretical perspective, promotes a dialogical interaction between theoretic background, interviews with artists and information from documentaries such as Pixo (Directed by Roberto T. Oliveira and João Wainer, 2009), and Nos tempos da São Bento (Directed by Guilherme Botelho, 2010). The research aimed on proving the original hypothesis that stated that street art can be considered a way of struggle for the "right to the city" (LEFEBVRE, 2001). Street art can also be understood as a "geographical study object" (SANTOS, 2009), transiting dialectally between the concepts Urban Space, Territory and Landscape in a constant conflict between the "far order" and the "near order", (LEFEBVRE, 2001), visually expressing the emotions, feelings, riots, affections, jests, and protests from the citizens/artists. Moreover, we understand that street art is characterized by being a contradictory practice of transformation of the city, pressuring society, public power and social structures towards questioning, reasoning and, why not, creating a new society, radically different, promoting an "emancipatory praxis" (SOJA, 1996).
