Today's unsustainable resource use is influenced by many factors. One key factor isproduction methods and patterns. Trough change of production patterns enterprises can bepart of the solution to a more sustainable society. This case study has analyzed environmentalperformance of the printer company Edita Västra Aros Ltd (EVA), who has gained awards forits environmental work, and what driving forces they have had during this work. The survey isbased on a qualitative method and the collected data consists of documents and staffinterviews, which have been analyzed with content analysis. This essay identifies four successfactors behind EVA’s successes within sustainable enterprise. Those are long-term systematicwork, monitoring of outcome, energy efficiency gains and communication throughenvironmental labels. Long-term systematic work has contributed to increased credibility,more efficient production and lower environmental impact. EVA has measured anddocumented and has been able to evaluate the effects of environmental measures. Energyefficiency improvements have resulted in competitive advantages and received interest asgood practice. EVA has communicated its environmental work well, using differentindependent environmental brands and labels. This has simplified communication of own andits customers’ environmental profiles. The driving forces for the environmental performancehave mainly been responsibility for the environment and cost savings. Measures, whichinitially were motivated from environmental liability and competitive advantages, have nowalso generated market advantages.
