Syftet med examensarbetet var att beskriva hur studie- och yrkesvägledare arbetar på högskola/universitet och hur studie- och yrkesvägledarna förhåller sig till de nya förutsättningarna. De nya förutsättningarna kan vara arbetslöshet, ett högre tryck, studenters behov och att övergången från skola till arbete blir längre. Som en inledning valde vi att förklara hur studie- och yrkesvägledare arbetar på dessa instanser. Därefter ville se om de nya förutsättningarna hade påverkat studie- och yrkesvägledarnas arbetssätt på den lokala och den centrala vägledningen. Avslutningsvis ville vi ta reda på hur studie- och yrkesvägledarna uppfyller studenternas behov av vägledning. Vår uppsats bygger på kvalitativa intervjuer från sju informanter. Sex av dessa är verksamma studie- och yrkesvägledare och en av dessa har tidigare arbetat inom området. Resultatet visade att studie- och yrkesvägledarna hade en basservice som de arbetade utifrån, men hjälpen riktas till olika individer. Den lokala vägledningen har en mer informativ roll och studie- och yrkesvägledarna är mer specialiserade kring vissa utbildningar på den valda högskolan/universitetet. Studie- och yrkesvägledarna på den centrala vägledningen arbetar med generella frågor som berör allt kring studier. Vidare visar resultet att förändringar skett och studie- och yrkesvägledarna märkt av ett tryck främst under ansökningsperioderna. Samarbetet mellan den lokala och centrala vägledningen har lyfts fram som en viktig del i arbetet med att hjälpa studenterna. För att uppfylla studenternas behov visar resultatet att tillgänglighet lyfts fram som det viktigaste och att studenten får den hjälp denne behöver. Resultatet visar även att förändringar lett till att studie- och yrkesvägledarna dubbelbemannas och att det höga trycket påverkar studie- och yrkesvägledarna. Tidigare forskning som kopplas till resultatet är, The Counseling Role of College and University Counseling Centers. Journal of Counseling Psychology (Warman, 1961) och International Association of Counseling Services: Standards for University and College Counseling Services (IACS, 2011). De teorier som har använts som analysverktyg i studien är Empowerment och Antonovsky’s KASAM. / The aim of this study was to describe the work of guidance and career counselors in a college/university and how they relate to the new conditions. The new conditions can be seen as unemployment, a higher pressure, the students needs and that the transition from school to work is much longer. As an introduction we chose to explain how guidance and career counselors work in a college/university. Then we wanted to see if the new conditions had affected the guidance and career counselors work. We also wanted to know how they meet the students needs. Our study is based on qualitative interviews from seven informants. The results showed that guidance and career counselors had a basic service wich they worked by, but the counseling is individualy based. The career guidance is offered by a local and a central instance. The guidance and career counselors have a more informative role. They are more specialized on certain programs at the college/university. Guidance and career counselors at the central instance are offering general help with issues affecting all about studies and a wider guidance to help students that have issues with the elections. The results also show that changes have taken place, and the guidance and career counselors noticed a pressure primarily during application periods. The cooperation between the local and central guidance has been highlighted as an important work to help the students. To meet the students needs, results show that accessbility is highlighted as the most important. The results also show that changes has lead into doubling the staff at application periods and that the high pressure affects the guidance and career counselors. The theories that have been used as analytical tools in the study are, Empowerment and KASAM by Antonovsky.
