Previous issue date: 2008-10-27 / O presente trabalho teórico objetiva analisar as principais técnicas agrícolas utilizadas no estado de Mato Grosso, seus impactos ao meio ambiente e sua trajetória tecnológica, a fim de definir o modelo da agricultura predominante e a sua relação com o desenvolvimento sustentável. O problema de pesquisa se reveste em indagar qual o papel das inovações tecnológicas sobre o meio ambiente e a promoção da sustentabilidade na agricultura do estado de Mato Grosso, sob a hipótese de que decisões gerenciais sobre inovações tecnológicas podem levar efetivamente à redução das externalidades ambientais, entretanto, não necessariamente, convergem para a sustentabilidade da agricultura. As principais proposições indicadas na pesquisa, no sentido de construir um novo modelo agrícola para o estado, remetem a uma reconfiguração da agricultura predominante, combinada com outras alternativas de produção, capazes de atender a demanda crescente de alimentos e atenuar os desequilíbrios ecológicos e sociais apresentados. _______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The present study is characterized as a theoretical research which has as an aim to analyze the main agricultural techniques used in Mato Grosso state, their environmental impacts and their technological trajectory, with the objective of defining the model of agriculture that is predominant and its relation with a sustainable pattern of development. This research questions what is the role of the technological innovations and the environment for the promotion of sustainability of agriculture in Mato Grosso state, under the argumentation that management decisions about technological innovations can lead effectively to the reduction of environmental externalities, however, not necessarily to a sustainable type of agriculture. The main propositions indicated in the research with the need of constructing a new agricultural model for the state, lead to a reconfiguration of the present agricultural model which is predominant, combined with other alternatives of production, capable of satisfying the crescent demand of food and diminishing the ecological and social unbalances presented.
