Matförgiftad? Kanske ett införande av Smiley system i Sverige skulle kunna hjälpa dig?

Most of us sometimes in life visit a restaurant to relax and eat some good food. In that case, we trust that the food they are serving is of good quality and safe which prevent food poisoning. As a consumer you mostly do not have any insight what’s happening in the kitchen at the restaurant. What is really going on when they prepare the food? An introduction of the Smiley system could help you as a consumer in the choice of restaurant. I am one of those who always are careful when I choose restaurant. You want it to look nice and clean, but mostly you don’t see the kitchen where the food is prepared. Restaurant consumers in the municipality of Halmstad many people has little knowledge what the restaurants looks like and what’s going on behind the closed doors to the kitchen. In the year of 2005 there was an investigation done (SOU 2005:44) by the government’s public investigations about the introduction of a Smiley system with the purpose to increase the work with the food safety regarding to provisions and to give the consumers insights in the choice of restaurant. The Department of Agriculture voted against the introduction of this proposal and since then nothing has happened in the municipality of Halmstad. Today there are a few municipalities in Sweden that has voluntarily adopted the Smiley system and as a part of my examination has been a research of the insight on how their work looks like and if it has lead to an increased safety regarding provisions. I also have investigated how the restaurant consumers in Halmstad would think of the introduction of a Smiley system, where the food business would be forced to make the results from a food inspection public. They will also be forced to put a summary on a visible place in the restaurant. Depending on the results by the inspector, the restaurant will get a decal. By doing so, the consumer can look at the decal and do not have to read the summary. The examination has performed by qualitative interviews to get an insight into what the restaurant consumers in Halmstad are thinking of the Smiley system and the introduction of it. The interviewed persons have been in the age of 20 to 50 years old and have been chosen randomly. After an analysis of the material I got from the interviews I could see that the restaurant consumers in Halmstad think that an introduction of a Smiley system would be positive. Awareness and insight has been two recurring words in the interviews and the interviews where pervaded positive. The municipalities that I choose to interview are two big cities and two small cities that are working with the Smiley system. I made this choice to see if it was any difference in their work by the Smiley system. Questions were sent to the responsible for each municipality via mail. As I got the answers back I came to the conclusion that the Smiley system for most part worked well in each municipality and also that the introduction of the system has brought more work and commitment.
