Vems tid, när då? : En intersektionell analys av historiebruket i tv-serien Vår tid är nu. / Whose time, when? : An intersectional analysis of the use of history in the TV series Vår tid är nu.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the use of history in the TV series Vår tid är nu as well as how it portrays the characters in regard to gender and social class to see if there is a progression in the series for how they are treated and their opportunities in society from a gender, social class, and sexuality perspective. A targeted selection of scenes were made where the scenes show the social norms the characters has follow. To analyze the scenes a narrative, intersectional analysis, and historian Klas-Göran Karlsson’s theory about the use of history was applied. Furthermore, this study argues for the didactical possibilities of using visual media as a mediating tool in conveying history. The results shows that the series are influenced by contemporary issues such as the MeToo movement, feminism, and the trade union movement. The creators of the series use the history as a time stamp in history. The results points to a strong connection to the research on Sweden in the 20th-century – the housewife contract, housing politics and the work towards a welfare state. It also shows a progression were women get a bigger role outside the home and a more liberal view on sexual relations in the Swedish society.
