Det moderna konventionella jordbruket bidrar till flera olika typer av miljöproblem i Sverige och i världen. En förändring behövs för ett hållbart jordbruk nu och i framtiden. Denna förändring måste i stor grad innefatta jordbrukarna som är aktiva inom den konventionella produktionen. Jordbrukarna framställs ofta som bovarna i dramat och regleras idag med olika politiska styrmedel för att deras miljöpåverkan ska minska. Den här studien syftar till att öka förståelsen för hur de konventionella jordbrukarna upplever sitt arbete och liv. Empirin, jordbrukarnas upplevelser, inhämtades via fem kvalitativa intervjuer i Uppsala län under våren 2014. För att studera empirin har identitetsbegreppet använts och informanternas berättelser har analyserats i relation till fyra nyckelbegrepp kring identitet: ontologisk trygghet, demarkation, agency och ”den föränderliga omvärlden. Bland annat behandlas hot mot identiteten, kollektiva upplevelser, sociala konstruktioner av miljöproblem och globalisering. / Modern conventional agriculture causes several different types of environmental issues in Sweden and the rest of the world. A change is vital for a sustainable agriculture today as well as in the future. This change has to extensively include farmers active in conventional production. These farmers are often depicted as culprits and they are presently regulated with different political instruments to decrease the environmental effects of their agricultural practices. This study aims to increase the understanding of conventional farmers’ experiences of their own lives and work. The empirical data, the farmers’ experiences, were obtained through five qualitative interviews conducted in Uppsala County during spring 2014. The concept of identity has been used to study the material, and the stories of the interviewees have been analysed in relation to four key concepts: ontological security, demarcation, agency, and ‘the shifting surrounding world’. Themes addressed in the analysis are, inter alia, identity threats, collective experiences, social construction of environmental issues, and globalisation.
