The purpose of this essay was to put a historical spin on the traditional gender analysis. Much research has been previously done aimed towards analyzing the representation of gender and gender roles in school text books. There seemed to be a lack of historical viewpoints however where the studies aim to look at the development of gender and gender roles throughout history. This study aims to analyze five different historical text books from the period of 1970–2016. Each of the five books come from each of the five decades’ in-between these years. The study aimed to study whether the representation of women have changed throughout these decades. The study presents evidence that representation of women and women's rights have increased, especially in the 2010's. The study also finds evidence that earlier books contain gender biased language.
