"Vi ska bli arbetslösa och kunna lägga ner kvinnojourerna" : En kvalitativ studie med anställda på kvinnojourer om deras upplevelser av arbetet med våldsutsatta kvinnorpå lång sikt / "We want to be unemployed and be able to shut down the women's shelter." : A qualitative study with the employees of women's shelter about their long-term experiencesfrom working with abused women

The aim with this study is to investigate through interviews, how the cooperation between women’s shelter and other participants and which methods and work methods are used in the long-term work of helping abused women. It’s the state and municipalities responsibility to meet the needs of the victims of violence with support and protection. Non-profit women’s shelters often complement the public authorities. Here, there often find a solid experience in the field, which public activities may lack off. For women who are victims of violence, who have previously had poor experience of government contacts, women’s shelters can be perceived as better alternatives, for support and assistance without a claim for counter performance (Regeringen 2007, Skr. 2007/08:39; Kunosson 2014). Therefore, the study takes its starting point from the staff in the perspective of women's shelter. The study is designed as a qualitative research strategy where semi-structured interviews are used as a method. The collected material from the interviews is analyzed through participationand empowerment theory. The result shows that the most important participants are social services and other municipal activities. Organizations. The experience is that organizations and government body functions don’t have sufficient knowledge in regards to violence and aspects relating to sheltering. The result shows that the term long term entails economic aspects and a view of that the yearly funding’s that the women’s shelters apply for could stretch for a longer time period. The term long term also includes being able to provide support for women for as long as they, themselves feel it’s needed. The result of the study also shows that the normalization and knowledge of and around men’s violence against women are important in the work. In addition to these results we also found that there are several methods and ways of working within the women shelters. Examples of these are empowerment, help to self-help and motivational interviewing.
