Samhället i spanskaboken : En undersökning av läromedel i spanska och dess relation till kursplanens kulturella och sociala syfte

This essay has examined how information about the Spanish speaking world in textbooks from two series of schoolbooks in Spanish for the Swedish grades 7-9 relates to the Swedish curriculum. The main questions were: what themes appear in the texts, how do the texts relate to the ’cultural and social purpose’ in the syllabus for the school subject modern languages, and which areas of the Spanish speaking world are represented? The method used in the investigation has been partially quantitative and qualitative. The result showed that the theme ’geography’ was the biggest among the analyzed texts. It also showed that Spain by far was the most frequent of the Spanish speaking areas in the texts. Furthermore, the analysis showed that in some cases the texts showed a lack of interculturality, which could have negative consequences for the relations with the ’cultural and social purpose’ of the syllabus.
